In memoriam Sarath Lanka Perera (12/2022)

On 5th December 2022 Mr. Sarath Lanka Perera, founder and driving force of Sith Sewana Mentally Handicapped Children’s Development Society, passed away.

Mr. Perera’s life ambition was to create a home to guide differently abled children and to bring them to their full potential.

On 8th May 1999 he started a home with only a few mentally handicapped boys and gradually he extended it.

During many years we cooperated closely with him in constructing i.a. a water tower, several dormitories, a sick ward, a chicken farm, a parapet wall. We also renovated the kitchen, several rooms and toilets, the roofs of the Buddhist shrine and of the big dining hall.

We donated kitchen utensils and furniture for the dormitories, a carpentry machine and security equipment. And more recently we provided five times food support for the 80 residents.

Together with Mr. Perera we set up an adoption program of which the annual contributions were used for the livelihood of, what he called his ‘special children’.

Adoptie Sri Lanka vzw is grateful having known him and having been able to assist him in his valuable work.

At time of his death Mr. Perera and his staff of 10 took care of 70 boys and girls residing in the home. His daughter Christeen Perera will carry on her father’s good work.

Mr. Sarath Lanka Perera will be greatly missed by many!
