Opening Health Centre Uni Jaffna (04/2025)

Mail from Michael Jayawardana:

Dear RCPC Family

I’m delighted to share that our project to establish a fully equipped Health Center at the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Jaffna has been successfully completed and ceremoniously declared open on 17th March 2025.

This initiative, supported through funding from Adoptie Sri Lanka-Belgium, has created a transformative healthcare facility directly benefiting over 2,000 students within the Faculty and more than 8,000 students across the University. The Health Center addresses a longstanding gap in on-site medical support, eliminating the need for students to travel over two kilometers for urgent care.

At the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by Vice Chancellor Professor S. SrisatkunarajahProfessor N. Kengatharan (Head of Faculty), and myself. The contribution of Rotary and our partners was acknowledged with deep gratitude by the entire university community.

This project, executed over a span of five months, involved the supply and installation of:

  • Medical and surgical equipment (wheelchairs, beds, thermometers, etc.)
  • Office and furnishing items (supplied by DAMRO)
  • Infrastructure, including air conditioning, reception counters, and more

I would like to extend special thanks to Rtn. Mahen Kariyawasan for securing the LKR 1.5 million funding from Adoptie Sri Lanka vzw, and Rtn. Sulo for her outstanding work in leading and coordinating this project to completion.

My sincere appreciation also goes out to all club members for your continued commitment, guidance, and support throughout the process.

📄 Please take a few minutes to review the attached project report, which includes the full list of items, expense breakdowns, photographs, and links to invoices. It serves as a testament to the power of Rotary service and our ability to drive real impact:
